In this painting, I rendered a close-up of an octopus, but in a way that lent itself more towards the abstract, as the octopus continues on out of frame.
The scene is an underwater setting, as evidenced by the presence of a coral reef surrounding the octopus. The color palette I used leaned heavily toward shades of grey and black, with an accent of warm tones that was used as a reflection of light filtering through the water.
Although the subject is an octopus, the abstract texture of the painting leads some viewers to perceive it as an abstract expression of texture and form. This was me obtaining the abstract through the way I rendered the representational.
